At least four area sporting goods dealers lost a large number of
items of merchandise when thieves hit a sporting goods show in
Linton's Humphreys Park over the weekend.
One of the merchants participating in the show was Outdoor
Addiction located on State Road 54W. Owner John Vowell said his
display was one of about four that was ransacked.
"I lost about $4,000 worth of equipment," said Vowell.
The police report list of equipment taken from the Outdoor
Addictions display included an Admiral BowTech bow, a Sniper
BowTech bow and a Captain BowTech bow, a Razors Edge Diamond
youth bow, a Black Ice Diamond bow and a Carnivore 31 Ross bow
plus four brown and two blue toboggans and five packages of
broadheads including Rage, Muzzy, Grim Reaper and G5.
All of the bows that were taken were 2009 models.
Vowell said this is the second year for the show which is
organized by one local dealer. Last year it was in the National
Guard Armory. This year they set up in the Roy Clark Community
Building in the park and were open Saturday and Sunday.
"The show started on Saturday morning so we all went in and
set up our displays on Friday evening. When we came in on
Saturday morning, we found all these things missing," said
Vowell.
Other dealers who suffered losses included Spurlin Auto
located on SR 43W in Linton, Sports 54 located in Carlisle, and
Minner's Bait Shop located on S. Main St. in Linton.
Virgil Meier of Sports 54 also reported several bows stolen
along with numerous other items including a Fuse youth bow, an
Alphamax 32 bow with a western package and a Darton 3500 bow,
two Beckley Spiderman rod and reel combos, six Eagle Claw six-
and four-inch filet knives, two camouflage shirts with logos,
two Hoyt iron skull shirts, two Hoyt hats, two sharpening stones
and two Eagle Claw blue rod and reel combos.
Four youth rods were missing from the Spurlin Auto display
including two princess, one Barbie and one Spiderman themed
rods.
Minner's Bait Shop reported one Abu Garcia Baitcaster was
missing along with numerous various baits.
The Linton Police Department responded to the scene around 8
a.m. on Saturday.

occurred sometime after 8 p.m. on Friday.
